Dallas Mavericks Defeat Minnesota Timberwolves 108-105 in Game 1
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving Combine for 63 Points
The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-105 in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series on Friday night at Target Center. Luka Doncic led the way for the Mavericks with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists, while Kyrie Irving added 23 points and seven rebounds.
The Timberwolves were led by Anthony Edwards' 26 points and Karl-Anthony Towns' 19 points and 14 rebounds. However, the Mavericks were able to overcome an 18-point deficit in the third quarter to earn the victory.
The Mavericks took an early lead in the game, but the Timberwolves were able to come back and take a 60-52 lead at halftime. The Timberwolves extended their lead to 78-60 in the third quarter, but the Mavericks went on a 20-2 run to close the quarter and cut the deficit to just two points.
The Mavericks continued to chip away at the Timberwolves' lead in the fourth quarter, and they eventually took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Doncic with just over three minutes remaining. The Timberwolves had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but Edwards' three-point attempt was off the mark.
The Mavericks will now head home for Game 2 of the series on Sunday night. The Timberwolves will need to regroup and find a way to slow down Doncic and Irving if they want to even the series.
